Year 8 | Moreton Bay Boys' College

Task 1: Altered Reality

Following the Art and Design cycle of inquiry, the students were to develop and create an altered self-portrait using the notion of ‘Fragmenting’ as a means of communicating aspects of self, or elements of their own characteristics to the viewing public.

Contemporary depictions and interpretations of portraits and identity have resulted in the viewer being detached from the contemporary art practices. The students works were designed to re-establish connections with the viewer by creating 2 dimensional mixed media collage works on paper that demonstrate altered realities or portraits that clearly explore issues of identity.

Task 2: Defiance ART

Following the Design Process (of Research, Develop, Resolve and Reflect) students were instructed to create a poster using stencilling techniques that protests a personal social or political issue.

The student’s goal was to demonstrate that stencil art allows for the communication of ideas that concern world-interconnectedness. Their challenge involved visually articulating the concept of ‘Parody’ in order to communicate and express a global issue of concern to the viewer.

Unit 2: Design Technology

TICK TOCK

Through the Global Context; Personal and Cultural Expression students explored various CADCAM Machining techniques which included laser cutting and 3D printing to produce a function clock for a client of their choice.
