Year 5 | Moreton Bay Boys' College

Task 1: Who we are

SILHOUETTE COLLAGE

Students created a collage that introduces themselves to an audience and make them visible to all. Their goal was to give the audience a visual of who they are as a person.

Students had to use images that represented their individual identity and the influences and/or conflicts between these. They sourced their images from magazines, photos, clip art images and artworks that they had created themselves. As a means of developing ideas, they needed to consider the “social worlds” that they are a member of; tennis club, scouts, cubs, swimming club, little athletics etc

Task 2: Abstract Landscape

MY PERSPECTIVE PAINTING

Using their newly acquired knowledge and understanding of aerial perspective and painting techniques, the students were required to create an artwork that describes an area from above as if they were flying over the top of it in a helicopter.

Ultimately, they were to create a personally meaningful large colour abstract compositional painting that investigates the uses of colour and perspective in the style of the unit’s mentor artist; John Olsen, Richard Diebenkorn, Dadda Samson and Sally Gabori:

In planning their painting, they were asked to consider the pathways, people, animals, landscaping and buildings within their composition.
