OUR BIRDS

As part of this unit students explored Aboriginal Dreamtime, a period in which life was created according to Aboriginal culture.  These art pieces were inspired by the book, ‘How the Birds Got Their Colours’ by Pamela Lofts.  The book was based on a story told by Mary Albert, of the Bardi people, to Aboriginal children living in Broome, Western Australia.  

Students used the watercolour technique ‘Crayon Resist’ to explore how different things react with watercolour.  In this piece the crayon repelled the watercolour to define their design.  The students’ birds were outlined in black and mounted on a contrasting colour to enhance their work.
